Future Publishing profits drop 61%
Specialist magazine house Future Publishing has blamed poor US performance for a fall in profits of 61 per cent, from £9.5 million to £3.7 million, for the year ended September 30.
The company, which publishes the official PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Nintendo magazines, along with online sites Edge Online and Gamesradar, saw revenues fall 13 per cent to £153.1 million.
Microsoft launches Xbox 360 Sky Player
Microsoft has launched its streaming film and television content service in association with Sky TV for the UK and Ireland today.
The Sky Player for Xbox 360 will allow Xbox Live Gold members to watch programmes from 24 different channels live, with an additional selection of on-demand channels featuring key shows from the past month as well as over 400 movies on offer from the current Sky Movies channels line-up.
For Gold members that already have a subscription to Sky, the content will be free, depending on that level of subscription - Sky Sports and Sky Movies content will require appropriate accounts - although as with the PC-based Sky Player users will also need to pay a GBP 5 Multi-Room charge if they don't already.

But tonight the identical twins were finally voted out of the ITV talent competition. For seven weeks viewers had tuned in to watch the 18-year-old duo, nicknamed Jedward because of the difficulty in distinguishing one from the other, undergo a weekly ritual in which they were routinely booed by the audience and criticised by the show’s judges for their tuneless annihilation of classic songs.
Thousands shun colour television

Almost 30,000 people across the UK still tune into their favourite programmes on black and white TV sets.
The figures were released by TV Licensing to mark the 40th anniversary of the first colour transmissions on BBC1 and ITV.
Children in Need sees TV stars perform for charity

Children in Need, the BBC's annual telethon, has raised millions of pounds for charity on a fun-filled night.
EastEnders, Strictly Come Dancing and Dragon's Den stars appeared early on the seven-hour show, hosted by Alesha Dixon, Sir Terry Wogan and Tess Daly. Peter Kay joined dozens of children's TV characters to launch the official single and dance group Diversity spiced up the BBC newsreaders' routine. Some £18.8m has already been raised, with the aim to match last year's £38m.
